McLaren must resolve reliability issues to attain good results in remainder of 2012 ? Formula 1
McLaren have been deemed as one of the most competent title contenders in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship and it is really important for them to resolve their reliability issues so as to secure a competitive position.
Lewis Hamilton of the Woking based team performed tremendously well in the qualifying of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and managed to claim the pole position. Afterwards, he had a brilliant start in the race, but due to fuel pressure failure, he was unfortunately retired.
It will be important to mention that Hamilton has faced the reliability problems in many grands prix in the season until now due to which his hopes for winning the championship title faded as he lost some crucial points.
On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button has also struggled with some technical difficulties and tyre management issues which have hindered his performance in few races in the season so far.
Nevertheless, the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they are trying their best to fix the problems which they are facing right now and are looking forward to attain competitive results in the remaining two races of the ongoing season.
Furthermore, Whitmarsh backed up their engine provider, Mercedes and said that the recent issues have nothing to do with the overall quality control of their team.
?In fairness to Mercedes, they have been very reliable,? Whitmarsh said. ?But these things happen in motor racing, they are not related or endemic, it's just one of those things.?
Even though, he said that the 27-year-old really deserved the victory in Abu Dhabi as he had been very impressive in the qualifying and took a remarkable start in the race, but his fuel pump issue gave him away.
?I think Lewis deserved to win this race. He came here, did a great job, was on it from the get go and we were all pretty confident that should have been a relatively easy and straightforward win. Clearly he had the pace, he was looking after his tyres from the start and that's why it's frustrating,? he said.
Nonetheless, he said that they are not feeling disappointed and are positively aiming to deliver their best in the last two races of the current season so as to secure a good position in this year?s championship.
Additionally, he said that they are trying to make the essential advancement in their car in order to come up stronger in the races ahead. He also said that the competition is going to be very tough in the final two rounds and they need to take the maximum advantage of their update package to compete with their rivals. ?
?We've had a quick car but you can always make it quicker,? he added.?
At present, the 2008 world champion is standing at fifth place in the drivers? championship with 165 points. Besides, he is just two points behind his main rival, Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and is 12 points ahead of Button who has a strong lead over Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
Meanwhile, the British squad is at third place in the constructors? championship with 318 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Lotus and are behind their major opponent, Ferrari.
Let?s see whether they will be able to fix their reliability issues or not and how they perform in the last two races of the season.
